GeekGirl Meetup 2nd time – What a Success!

joanaGeekgirlI am very happy to have, once again,  participated on such a great Conference.  What a great time we had! I am glad I had the opportunity to listen to and learn so many things, get inspired with brilliant ideas, and for having so much fun as well!
The second GGM, labeled as #ggm09  on twitter, brought sessions decided in advance, but there was also  room for sessions in the “unconference” style,  which I think is pretty cool. The only problem with those is that if one is not well tuned, it is easy to miss good sessions, since the issues tend show up unexpectedly.

The GGM was created by, among others: @heidiharman (Runalong.se) e @nordgren (rjdj.me). These geeks  doesn’t  think twice about sharing knowledge with  other girls. You can really get inspired with them!
This year the #ggm was carried out in two days, from  Saturday 24th October  to Sunday 25th.
Saturday was a very exciting day.

A big surprise was to find the speaker @jpilomia a brazilian from Finland, who came totalk about Maemo and  Nokia N900.  The session was very  interesting, it was a pity that there was some technical problems. Although the majority here is in love with the iPhone, many geeks have tested the N900 and have been very positive to it.
One of the most interesting sessions to me was about augmented reality that @annika held. Incredible how the mobile phone has developed and the possibilities seems to be unlimited.

Here is one of the videos I enjoyed the most with Augmented Reality :
And Arduino, of course!

Arduino is a kit to program hardware that I just loved testing. Imagine being able to program a card wich can sense if your plants are dry and then release the water at the right time? Or  if your card can switch on or off  the lights in your house based on the measurement of the environment ‘s brightness?

Yeah, it was because of Arduino that  I arrived late for the organization  of my associations party. I had arranged to leave the conference at 16:00 and I was playing with Arduino, when suddenly I took a peek at the clock of the computer It was 16:45! I left on the double! It was veryt hectic, but gradually everything was settling in.  It was great that my team was already there and each one was already  performing its tasks. Result:The event was simply wonderful!

GeekGirls Meetup – Sunday
On Sunday the amount of geeks were greatly diminished, as many geeks are also mothers. In Sweden it is very difficult to get help by having someone to look for the small ones. It was decided that next years event  will  offer day care so  geeks  that have kids can participate in the whole program.

I won! I won!

Besides more contacts, I ‘ve got more knowledge and prizes!
Do you believe I got a New mobile phone from nokia? Not just another phone but a N900! Is’nt this just Great?

Too bad it will only arrive at the turn of the year … Bit it is still very good!
I also got an Arduino kit. This is a toy that I really plan spending  time with!
And I also got an one year webhotel from Binero,! Cool. I wanted to test some new Swedish servers. I didn’t have much luck before, that’s why I have on USA, but this one I will use for the new version of the  Brazilian organisation’s site. Very cool!

Thank you very much!
